IMBA Italia represents in Italy the International Mountain Bicycling Association, an international non-profit organization that aims to ensure and develop sustainable access to trails for bikers by integrating mountain biking with the territory and local communities.
IMBA was born in the United States in 1988 and quickly became a point of reference for the dialogue between the off-road cycling community and other trail users, educating bikers to minimize their impact on the environment, organizing the maintenance of the trails by volunteers and acting as an intermediary with local authorities and sponsoring the development of new projects.
IMBA Italia’s Vision
Preserve and improve mountain bike experiences in a sustainable way while respecting the environment.
IMBA Italia’s Mission
Improving people’s lives with better health, climate and economy by creating a link between man and nature through the practice of mountain biking while limiting the impact on the natural environment.
Facilitate collaboration between people, associations and organizations by providing support to local bodies (public and private) for the maintenance and creation of sustainable trails through training, organization of events and consultancy.
Ensure easy access to fantastic sustainable mountain bike trails, from trails close to home to iconic experiences in the wilderness.
Working for a mountain bike-friendly Italy, increasing the diversity of cycling and the quality of MTB communities.
Strategies
Improving people’s lives
IMBA Italia’s goal is to grow the sport of mountain biking by bringing more people on bicycles to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits that sport and outdoor life can bring to their lives.
A cycling-friendly community and the development of sustainable MTB infrastructures have been proven to stimulate the local economy by reducing the impact on the climate and encouraging an environmentally conscious lifestyle.
Ensure easy access to the trails
Everyone in Italy should have access to sustainable mountain bike trails as they are key to bringing new people closer to off-road cycling.
The close to home trails are essential to inspire more people to an active life every day, sparking their interest in seeking off-road experiences in their free time and on vacation.
Sustainable trails are socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. The best mountain bike trails respect and protect nature, respect other users groups and are economically sustainable.
Contribute to a suitable mountain biking Italy
Our goal is to make Italy a mountain bike-friendly peninsula by improving the diversity of the sport by attracting more underrepresented user groups, increasing the quantity and quality of mountain biking communities and supporting the development of sustainable mountain bike trails.
Facilitate the development of local associations
IMBA Italia will be able to achieve all the above objectives only by working closely with the local associations that support our vision and mission and will then provide them with support and guidance to help them thrive.
Local MTB advocacy associations are essential to ensure legal and sustainable access to trails for mountain bikers, promote responsible use of trails and involve local communities.
