Social Tech Lab – Laboratory of technological and social innovation
The Social Tech lab is a program that was created to promote knowledge, development and application of technological solutions of social impact, to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations. Multi-year project, it starts in Turin from an initiative of Nesta Italia, supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, in the context of Torino Social Impact.
The objective of the Social Tech Lab is to connect the world of technological innovation and the social sector, for this reason it addresses local contexts and works in collaboration with different partners (Public Institutions, Third Sector Organizations, Startups, Companies) to realize activities of experimentation, training and divulgation.
The Social Tech Lab intends to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative solutions that take into account the real needs of beneficiaries and operators in the sector.
Emerging technologies for sustainable development
The most widespread emerging technologies were examined – in in-depth thematic chapters edited in collaboration with various research partners – and through the presentation of use cases in Italy and worldwide, the way in which these technologies contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was analysed.
Emerging technologies for climate change
This strand of research reviewed emerging technologies and their potential with respect to achieving Goal 13 (combating climate change) of the 2030 Agenda. After introducing the problem of climate change and the political strategies adopted to tackle it, the analysis was structured along three thematic axes, representing what appear to be the main opportunities offered by the use of emerging technologies in relation to the climate crisis: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, responding to the effects of climate change and raising awareness. Finally, the risks associated with new technological opportunities in the environmental sphere are examined and a series of priorities for the future are proposed.
