The Empower! project aims to enhance the skills and potential of non-EU migrant citizens living in the Turin area.

The aim of the project is to improve the economic and financial inclusion of non-EU citizens residing in Turin and its province by helping them to become economically independent. The activities implemented are: financial education, job orientation, mentoring and financial support for business start-up.

Empower! – Migrants in Professional Welfare & Economic Rights is a project funded as part of a broader agreement between the Council of Europe Development Bank, (CEB) and the European Commission (Directorate General for Home Affairs), whose aim is to improve the inclusion of migrants in EU Member States through the development of new partnerships and new forms of funding. Empower is a project realised thanks to the contribution of a public-private partnership composed of the Association Microlab, lead partner, A pieno titolo, University of Milano-Bicocca, CeSPI Centre for International Policy Studies, Municipality of Settimo Torinese, Inventure aps, PerMicro, in collaboration with the Municipality of Turin and IOM, International Organisation for Migration.

The project turns the spotlight on the real social impact generated by inclusive practices, in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda. At the end of the project, the evaluation of the social impact generated, using the SROI methodology, and the drafting of recommendations to be offered to policy-makers to promote inclusive practices are foreseen. Migrants are a great resource if they are allowed to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to actively participate in the economic and social life of the community. This improves the community as a whole, preventing deviance and crime that can develop in areas where there are no healthy opportunities for people from outside the country to grow.

The Empower project supports non-EU citizens living in Turin and its province by helping them to become economically independent:

  • by learning how to manage money better,
  • by valorising previous skills,
  • opening their own business.

HOW?
Through training, tutoring and mentoring to enable them to make the most of their previous skills and knowledge and acquire those necessary to actively participate in the economic and social life of the community.
